Time for Equality, in collaboration with Rotondes, welcomes you to the Luxembourg premiere of The Milky Way.
In the western Alps, between Italy and France, every day, dozens of people try to cross an imaginary line called “border”. During the day, the ski slopes are a place for fun, sport and leisure. At night, they turn into a theatre of fear and danger. Exiles, poorly prepared and poorly equipped, risk their lives to follow the paths despite the darkness, the cold and the controls of the French authorities.
The Milky Way is a choral film of the mountains. Through the stories of the activists and the inhabitants of Claviere (IT) and Montgenèvre (FR), the historical reconstruction in animated graphics of the Italian emigration of the 1950s, and the stories of exiles saved by solidarity on both sides of the border, the film sheds light on the humanity that appears when imminent danger reactivates solidarity, out of the conviction that nobody should be left behind. No one can survive alone.
The screening of the documentary will be followed by a live discussion with the film director, Luigi D’Alife, who will join the event online.
