Several times a year, a young girl leaves civilisation behind to observe the comets. Sometimes she travels far and sometimes she just sleeps outside in the countryside surrounding her home. Summer or winter, she only carries a sleeping bag and a telescope with her. She likes the feeling of belonging to something larger than herself. She feels that her own body is actually star dust – an abstract reflection that is difficult to communicate to her surroundings.

Marina Smorodinova

Born in Vsevolojsk (RU), Marina Smorodinova lives and works between Paris and Metz (FR). She is a graduate of Saint Petersburg State University in conflict management, of the École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine in Metz and the Studio national des arts Le Fresnoy in Tourcoing. In 2017, she presented Listen to the World at the 4th edition of the Triennale Jeune Création, Jet Lag / out of sync, at Rotondes. Her artistic research is driven by social interactions in everyday life. As in Anton Chekhov’s dramaturgy, simple situations, with no real intrigue, still have a strong narrative.

With their loop cycle Rotondes hosts uniquely-sized artistic video creations. Hanging right above the bar, a 200 x 700 cm screen area offers new creative possibilities and high-level exposure to guest artists.

This loop is presented as part of the Triennials programme, in collaboration with Casino Luxembourg − Forum d’art contemporain.
