They’ve been together for one year and a half and yet, DAUGHTER has already managed to play sold out venues in their native London. It hasn’t been long before fans and music critics alike started fiending for songstress Elena’s honeyed voice and the band’s accessible but still mature pop musings. Their topic of choice? Teen spleen sung in a much lighter mood than say the XX. Their new wavy coat that covers otherwise simple but catchy songs has caught the ears of renowned 4AD honchos who signed them last April.
As a kind of “thank you” to both their new label and their followers, DAUGHTER released their latest single, “Smother” and is set to add the finishing touches to a first LP recorded at Abbey Road, while hitting the road at the same time. DAUGHTER likes to play in uncommon places such as parks or churches (well, actually, not so uncommon these days) just to see if their magic still operates outside an expensive studio.
