The music these five friends from Dundalk (Ireland) make is strikingly untraditional. Though to look at them, it appears that the band are a five-piece with uniform make-up of a vocalist, two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer, not a single one of them utilizes their instrument in a confined or regular fashion.

Since the release of debut album Wednesday in mid-2018, the band have undergone a subtle but firm transition. While the album and subsequent singles pushed Just Mustard away from fitting snugly into the shoegaze category they once occupied, their latest release, Heart Under, makes them stand alone as a band that sound like no other.

Daily Vacation emerged in 2011 as a three-piece band from Ralph Zeimet’s darker electro-rock project Fracture thanks to the influence of long-term collaborators Sébastien Laas (Cyclorama) and Mike Tock (Metro). Heavily inspired by the bright and positive vibes of the early 2010’s chill and synth-wave movements, Daily Vacation have always played with the contrasts between raw and energetic DIY garage rock, endlessly layered moody ambient sequences and somewhat cliché imagery of escapism: beaches, palm trees and piña coladas.
