Phantasy Sound’s latest discovery Ghost Culture emerges from the shadows to make the space between those two worlds his own. Since announcing his arrival one year ago with a debut single Mouth, the London based artist has built up a feverish following with a further pair of ear catching singles. This trio of sell-out releases, each pressed on transparent vinyl, offered a glimpse of a rare talent whose music was just as at home in the club as it was in one’s bedroom.
Speaking of which, Ghost Culture began with the young artist holed up in his bedroom, using a basic set up of “one synthesizer, one sequencer and a couple of effects” to communicate the sounds and feelings he found trapped within himself. He wrote the album in a brief period, capturing the immediacy of the process and avoiding a laboured or polished sound.
Alongside the impressive singles, the eponymous debut album boasts quaalude laced lullabies (How, Glaciers, Lying), machine funk shufflers (Lucky, Answer) and the gorgeous album closer The Fog, as the producer leads us on a textured journey from the intensity of the dancefloor to the moonlit intimacy of the bedroom. Andrea Mancini has had a few experiences with electronic music in Luxembourg. Now based in Brussels, he started his solo project under his moniker Cleveland in 2012 after getting more and more into digging through the depths of house or electronic music in general. Since then he has played in quality locations in and around Belgium (Brussels, Paris, Cologne, Berlin).
In 2013 Cleveland released his first tracks on respected deep house label Batti Batti from Malta. Last year in June his debut EP came out on Berlin’s WHITE label hold by Panoramabar resident Oskar Offermann which has gained a lot of support by the likes of John Talabot and Axel Boman.
