Digitale Kunst The Sound of Data

Have you ever wondered what data sounds like?

Dieser Text existiert nicht auf Deutsch.

With The Sound of Data (a project part of Esch2022), the FNR, the University of Luxembourg, the Rockhal and the Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) aim at building bridges between science and music.

Their idea is to create music from data, usually available in visual form. This process is called sonification. The Sound of Data uses traffic data, historical data and 3D body scan data as a basis. But it also uses data from crowdsourcing art — and that’s where you come in!

Abstract artworks turned into sound

From June 27 until July 10, a terminal equipped with a tablet will be placed at Rotondes, at the entrance of the Buvette. This will be your chance to create abstract graphic pieces of art, drawing curves and working with colour combinations or geometric shapes. Your artwork will be sent to you by email, but most importantly it will be saved and eventually become part of an aggregated work of art.

The data derived from your images will be sonified by the musicians participating in The Sound of Data artist residency. The outcome will be revealed on December 3 when the musicians perform their composition on stage at the Rockhal.

Drop by at Rotondes from June 27, during the Buvette’s opening hours, to be part of the project!
