Distant, cold songs about lost love, a distinct experimental sound, haunting hollow Dutch vocals soaked in reverb: each of De Ambassade’s songs is instantly identifiable as their own. On stage, a shadow play set against a screen of smoke creates a grim atmosphere invoking feelings of emptiness, dystopia that feels peculiarly comfortable.
As if that wasn’t enough, the evening will be enhanced by the performances of two local acts. Von Kübe is a boomer’s musical attempt at connecting with their German roots. The project conjures up the Ruhr’s industrial atmospheres of the Ruhr and Saarland’s bucolic scents. NBLR is a duo whose music revolves around loops, staggering up to create something bigger than you might expect. What you get is mostly post-rock but NBLR doesn’t take genres to seriously.
