Alexandra Uppman uses the concept of “Heimat” as narrative in much of her art. It is a German term for the feeling of belonging to a physical or emotional place (“home”). Alexandra creates a link to her multiple origins – Luxembourg, Finland, Sweden – through a common nature: a Nordic flora without borders, which has become one of the essential graphic sources of her work.
Through this installation, Alexandra goes through a meticulous and meditative graphic process where each gesture allows her to deal with identity through in-depth introspection.
Alexandra Uppman
Alexandra Uppman obtained her Master’s degree at the École de Recherche Graphique de Bruxelles and has been working in Luxembourg since 2018. Her preferred media are drawing, painting and installation. The artist, who was born in Luxembourg and has Swedish-speaking Finnish parents, sees her artistic sensibility emerge through her conflicting relationship with the concept of nationality. She first explored that conflict in her master’s thesis: Metal Heimat, in 2017, which was an analysis of how metal music culture creates links and common territory.

cube
cube is a cycle of temporary artistic installations, designed outside a formal gallery space in order for the greatest number of people to enjoy. This space is located between the entrance to the Rotonde 2 and the Buvette.
