Raftside is a concept art project and vintage pop band created by visual artist Filip Markiewicz. His visual world is always connected with rock “milieu” and has a sarcastic political touch. Markiewicz’s latest project “Disco Guantanamo” presented at the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg — Mudam until february 2009, is a kind of “Gesamtkunstwerk” including a serie of drawings, video installations, neon writing and the edition of a song on a white vinyl disc (limited edition of 300 copies). Based on the philosopher Giorgio Agamben, Disco Guantanamo denounces the “blind spots” in current events.
On the other hand, Raftside is a musical rock project that swings between indie rock, songwriting and Tony Clifton-style entertainment.., Raftside usually shares the stage with bands like The Organ, Kaiser Chiefs, The Streets or Broken Social Scene… — Filip Markiewicz released already three solo albums since 2003 and works on a fourth “Disco Guantanamo”, recorded with a band in Brussels and produced by Rudy Coclet (producer of Arno…) The lineup changes from one concert to another, but one day they’re gonna find you…
