TELEFON TEL AVIV is a Chicago-based electronic-music group that relocated from New Orleans in 2001 and is primarily known for its work in electronica. Formed in 1999 by Charles Cooper and Joshua Eustis, its first album was released in the fall of 2001 to positive reviews. In 2002, the group released an EP on the Hefty Records Immediate Action label. In 2004, the duo’s second full-length album, and in 2007, it released a compilation album of remixes appropriately titled Remixes Compiled. The group released its third full length album (Immolate Yourself) on January 2009 on Ellen Allien’s Berlin-based Bpitch Control label. CIRCLESQUARE is Vancouver, British Columbia’s Jeremy Shaw, now living in Berlin. Don’t be surprised, though, if he doesn’t sound like any of his citymates: for the length of his career, Circlesquare has never sounded quite like anyone but Circlesquare. The young native of Vancouver explores the thousand facets of melancholy, using the harshest electronic rhythms, punk influences and highly charged atmospheres.
