As part of the opening of the Light Leaks festival, Luxembourgish photographers Liz Lambert and Dirk Mevis present The Rock in the River, a video and photo installation that explores life in Luxembourg’s Gare district. Exhibited simultaneously in two distinct forms as part of the loop and cube cycles, their work looks at the central station as a focal point of human experience.

Despite its function as a place of transit, this gravitational centre is a constant in many lives. There, parallel stories are weaved as people from all walks of life pass each other wordlessly, their minds focussed not on where they are but on where they’re going. Lambert and Mevis offer a layered view of the place, encompassing both sweeping panoramas and nuanced details of this peculiar environment, contrasting the station’s enduring and stoic presence – the rock’ – with the ephemeral river’ of individuals and stories that perpetually flow through it.

loop

Rotondes’ loop art cycle hosts uniquely sized video creations. Hanging right above the bar, a 200 x 700 cm screen area offers new creative possibilities and high-level exposure to guest artists.

cube

cube is a cycle of temporary artistic installations, designed outside a formal gallery space for the greatest number of people to enjoy. This space is located between the entrance for the Rotonde 2 and the Buvette.
