YACHT started out in 2002 as a one-man project, morphed into a duo in 2008, finally becoming a quartet in 2010. If it is true that power lies in numbers, you can bet that when the group returns to play CarréRotondes this summer, it will be a very emotional time. Their DFA signature alone is a stamp of quality, and the band has proven with the last record, See Mystery Lights” that even on a long player, it could live up to the expectations that bloggers and music snobs alike threw at them. Now, stronger than ever, they are ready to spread the news to the world. Not the gospel, though. Even if their world tour is called Road to Utopia, their view on all things future is gloomy, to say the least. The beats and the groove are still there, but the lyrics are tinged with heavy despair. This becomes apparent when listening to the latest single, Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)” off the upcoming album (and 2nd release on DFA), Shangri-La”. Thus, their motto: Dance now for you’re gonna die tomorrow. CIVIL CIVIC are Aaron Cupples and Ben Green who both live in different cities — London and Barcelona — respectively, but who manage to make cleverly written math rock more inclined towards post-punk than prog. They are currently unsigned but never fail to impress with each single or EP (“1”, Run Overdrive/Fuck Youth” and Lights On A Leash”). The fact that they rarely appear on photos has the media and the blogosphere compensate the lack of visuals by multiplying write ups, which is as good promo can get.
